After winning the invited competition organised by the Tyrolean beer producer Eggers for the design of a brasserie, BWM Architekten were tasked with drawing up a preliminary draft. On a corner of the Rathausplatz (city hall square) in St. Pölten, where once the legendary Rathaus Café was housed, the concept for a large pub with more than 100 seats, two counters and two outdoor terraces was developed. The historic building is “freed” of its 20th century interior and is given a clear, uniform design that is interspersed with colour highlights. Simple, industrial-style shades of grey mark the technical elements – lighting, building services installations – and basic hues are used for floors and furniture. Transparent, glass lighting elements, for which a specially developed CI is used, add colour highlights.
