Design of a 120-seat café with a take-away counter, located on the Erste Campus at Hauptbahnhof Wien (Vienna’s main station)

Whether you’re popping in for a quick espresso at the bar, getting a snack from the take-away counter, or treating yourself to an extended lunch in one of the corner booths – the Erste Campus Café George Deli and Café caters to all your needs. This café, located near Vienna’s main station, is also open to outside guests. The idea that provided the inspiration for the design was the image of a French bakery with a “couple of added chairs”. The eye-catcher at the centre of the room, under an English designer light fixture, is a long wooden table. Not only do the metal swivel lamps provide the tables along the walls with focussed light, but they also form a stark contrast to the otherwise light design. The glass sliding doors make it possible to extend the café out into the public space if the weather allows.
