Closed realisation competition for the new residence of the Austrian defence attaché in Berlin-Grunewald: 1st place

The Austrian Ministry of Defence announced a competition for a representative villa that was to be built on a lakefront property on Lake Grunewald. BWM Architekten proposed a modern building with many and varied individual areas. Thanks to an optimally designed internal structure and an atrium, the interior rooms receive natural light while meeting the high security requirements of this building, as there is no necessity whatsoever for street-side window openings. The building is thus hermetically sealed towards the street and opens up towards the lake. The representative public areas on the ground floor are strictly separated from the private areas and bedrooms on the upper floor. The Attaché’s office is located midway, on a mezzanine floor, as an interface between the public and the private.
