Aesthetics of Change, MAK
150 Years of the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
BWM Architekten and Sanja Utech of koerdtutech developed a highly informative exhibition tour entitled “Aesthetics of Change”, which takes an in-depth look at the history of the University of Applied Arts and its sphere of influence. The exhibition’s alphabetical arrangement dissolves the customary chronological format by presenting famous names, historical periods and significant works side by side with unknown or surprising exhibits.
The exhibition design is inspired by the idea of experimentation and impermanence – symbolised by the lightweight carrier medium paper. Posters on which the exhibits are arranged systematically serve as “file cards” bearing an index from A to Z. The exhibition space, entirely covered by posters according to this system, therefore allows for a wall-filling presentation of the exhibits from floor to ceiling.
