2. Baudialog

How can architecture help a hotel establish itself as a meeting place for the city’s community or as part of the local neighbourhood infrastructure? In short: what does the hotel give back to the city? Does the city need more hotel beds, and if so, in which category? How does Airbnb affect the housing market and the hotel industry?
At the 2nd Baudialog at Hotel Gilbert, Norbert Kettner (Vienna Tourism), Bernd Schlacher (restaurateur and hotelier), Daniela Enzi (WertInvest), Cornelia Dlabaja (sociologist and cultural studies scholar), Markus Reiter (Head of the Neubau District) and Erich Bernard (BWM Designers & Architects) discussed the role of tourism in urban development, the hotel as a place of social cohesion, and new approaches and alliances – economic, social and urban – under the title “The Hotel and the City”.
